A message from  the Chair on behalf of the Governors

Hello Everyone

There has been a lot of change in the governance of the Hillcrest which we wanted to share with you before the Christmas break.

  •  To increase visibility in and around the school, we’ve introduced a system of link governors with specific responsibilities.  Some mandatory (Health & Safety or Safeguarding) and others topic based.
  • We are working on better communications, using this newsletter and the Hillcrest website to keep people informed and involved. Additionally, you can now email the governors, directly and confidentially, at
  • We’re involved not just behind the scenes but also in building relationships with Friends of Hillcrest, most recently at the fantastically successful Christmas Fair, and with parents, by joining focus groups, open doors days and parents school development meetings.
  • Two community governors have joined us this term.  Eleanor Staples is an ex–Hillcrest pupil and academic working in the field of education, inequality and children’s social care.  Aleisha Woodley is the Deputy Head at a local secondary school and brings great focus to governance at Hillcrest.

Finally, as part of Ed Plowden’s succession planning, I have been elected as the new Chair of Governors last term.  I feel hugely privileged and hope to be able to make a real contribution to Hillcrest by taking forward the work we have started this year in partnership with the wider school community.

In the meantime, on behalf of the Governors I should like to wish you the best the season has to offer.

Francis Philippa
