Bristol City Council school admission arrangements consultation

  1. Bristol City Council is consulting on the proposed admission arrangements

Why are we consulting?

Admission arrangements outline how school places will be allocated at each school setting.  This includes the school’s over-subscription criteria which is used when schools receive more applications than places available.

For all community and voluntary controlled schools arrangements are determined by the Local Authority.  For all other schools this is the responsibility of the individual school or academy trust. For 2024/2025 our arrangements are broadly unchanged from those published for the previous admissions year.  The arrangements can be found on our Ask Bristol Consultation page.

Relevant Areas

The Local Authority also establishes the Relevant Areas for admission arrangement consultations. We are required to define a ‘relevant area’ in which admission authorities must consult on their proposed admission arrangements.  These are unchanged from what has been set in previous years but we have included them with this consultation as they relate to the admissions process. The relevant areas can also be found on our Ask Bristol Consultation page.

How to get involved

If you would like to comment on the proposed arrangements please complete the online feedback form on our Ask Bristol Consultation page

Alternatively, email to james.last@bristol.gov.uk or post to James Last, School Organisation, Bristol City Council, City Hall, PO Box 3399

The consultation will run until 31st January 2023

What happens next?

Once the consultation period has ended the arrangements will be determined and signed by the Director for Education and Skills and published on the Bristol City Council website by 15th March 2023.

  1. Additional consultations by other admission authorities in Bristol

We are also listing the proposed arrangements for a number of 'own admission authority' schools.  These are academies, foundation and voluntary aided schools who manage their own admissions.
