Bristol Grammar School open evening 4th October

About Bristol Grammar School

Co-educational and progressive in outlook, BGS is a school where children develop a love of learning, discover their wider potential, and build the friendships and self-confidence that will help them succeed in later life. With almost 500 years of academic heritage, BGS provides outstanding pastoral care and a huge range of co-curricular opportunity, I am confident that we have something to offer to every pupil.

Widening Access

Our Mission at BGS is to provide an exceptional and rounded education to those who might benefit from it, regardless of their background and financial means. We are proud to offer means-tested Bursary awards to enable pupils to join us whose families would not otherwise be able to find the funds. Bursary awards can be up to 100% in fee support, with additional help with the cost of uniform, equipment, and trips as is required. Over the coming years, our 500 Campaign will enable us to make a BGS education accessible to even more families, with a target of enabling 1 in 4 families to attend BGS with a Bursary in excess of 50%.

Talent recognition

Our Scholarship Programme recognises a child’s exceptional academic ability, or their particular talent in sport or in the creative and performing arts. Pupils awarded a scholarship at BGS will receive an annual grant for spending on enrichment in the field of their award, and they will join our Scholars Programme, which provides a range of opportunities designed to stretch and challenge them. The Scholarship booklet outlines the process of applying for each of the awards and also includes links to the application forms.

Other visiting opportunities

Individual tours are a fabulous way to experience a typical school day. Tours are taken by one of our former pupils and will run most weekday mornings during term-time.

Taster sessions run on Wednesdays throughout the Autumn term and are a great opportunity for children to get a real flavour of school life. Children spend the day in a group of other Year 6 visitors experiencing a variety of lessons, taking part in a D.T or Climbing activity and to have lunch alongside our Year 7 pupils. Tours, Tasters and Open Events are all bookable via our website or with the Admissions Team on 0117 933 9885.
