Grounds Committee
When we first got together as a group, we had lots of ideas about what we wanted to do in the school grounds. (We were quite ambitious!)
The welly wall in the key stage 1 playground needed replacing, so the committee put a message out in the mailbag asking for Hillcrest children to donate their old wellies. Then we planted them up with some lovely flowering summer plants, which brightens up the area.
We are very lucky that Redcatch Community Garden wanted to work with us to plant a pollinating garden. They came and put down some new pathways and added fresh compost to the raised beds with some help from some parents. The Grounds committee put the new plants in with Katy and Lou from Redcatch. Now, all the Hillcrest community can enjoy them, (as well as the bees!) It is great that we have lots of children who want to help us with the watering. And we are hoping to get parents, children and members of the local community to help with watering over the holidays.
We are very grateful to Riverside Garden Centre who have donated a great big, top-of-the-range water butt for our pollinating garden! That means that people coming in over the holidays can fill the watering cans from the shiny brass tap on the new butt
We also designed and painted a flowery mural at the end of the Key Stage 2 playground. It was a dull, grey wall that needed cheering up. There is a second part which we hope the new Grounds committee will work on next year.
We hope that you all like what the Grounds Committee have done.
