Mailbag 25 March 2022
Spring has certainly sprung this week. We almost saw Mr McIntyre’s knobbly knees but he decided against the shorts at the last minute - phew! In the lovely weather, the children are enjoying our outdoor spaces and casting off their jumpers and cardigans (and forgetting to pick them back up!) Please, please, please make sure everything your child wears to school is clearly named. You will stand a much better chance of being reunited with mislaid items! The same goes for water bottles!
We are continuing to see challenges with staffing levels, exacerbated by COVID-19. Over the last two weeks we have had 6 - 8 members of staff out daily. I know they would much prefer to be in school but the way the children in their classes have conducted themselves in their absence is a real credit both to them and to you, the parents.
Unfortunately, there just aren’t the supply teachers available at the moment but we have been able to cover teacher absences internally, mainly by re-deploying Mrs Howard, Miss Wilson, Mrs Hornsby and calling upon our amazing Teaching Assistants. I would like to thank the whole Hillcrest Team for pulling together.
And finally... BIG news! We had the first egg of the year, laid this week! Chickens generally stop laying in winter to conserve their energy. Obviously the warmer weather has set things in motion and we look forward to the rest of the flock catching on so that we can sell fresh, Hillcrest eggs at the school gates once more.
