Mailbag 28 June 2021

Mailbag 28 June 2021

Year 6 had a wonderful week last week. Not only were they on camp from Monday to Wednesday, kayaking, den building, mountain biking, fossil hunting and stream walking, on Thursday they were cooking and cycling. They rounded off the week with a fabulous Arts and Crafts day on Friday, led by our parents. A huge thank you to those parents, the whole Year 6 team and the office staff for making sure the children had a fantastic time. It is the turn of our Year 5 children to go to camp this week and I am sure we will hear all about it on their return.

As we head in to the business end of this term the children's thoughts naturally turn to September and their new classes. Our Transition morning will be on Wednesday 7th July, when the children will have the chance to meet their new teacher. Activities will centre on getting to know the teacher, talking about the year ahead and discussing all the exciting opportunities that are in store next academic year. We will be sending out a Transition Class List that day so you know who your child's new teacher will be.

Podcast Pride Special - Don’t miss the special Pride edition of ‘From the Crest of the Hill’, HERE, featuring a wonderful range of Hillcrest voices talking so positively about LGBT+ issues. Listen out for the Rainbow trail competition!

Friends of Hillcrest Sponsored Walk on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th July - All year groups will be taking part in a sponsored walk in Arnos Vale Cemetery, during school hours. It’s a great opportunity for the children to exercise and have fun whilst raising funds, all of which go towards enriching their education and school experience. This year, each year group has set its own challenge! Find out more and download a Sponsor Form HERE.

Mini Enterprise Fayre - This Friday, 2nd July, will be Mini Enterprise Day. This is always a really exciting day in the school calendar when Year 6 set up their stalls in the playground to sell their own creations.

Year 6 have been telling year groups in the school about their ideas today. They have worked very hard and are providing a really innovative fayre full of arts and crafts, food, drink and plenty of games for the children to play, with prizes. Every class will visit the fayre during the day.

If your child would like to buy some food, drink, arts/crafts and have a go at a couple of the games then we recommend them bringing £5 to Friday's fayre. However, anything they bring is really appreciated and we promise there will be something for all budgets.

Thanks, Year 6 Team

NSPCC Donation - Mrs Lamb, who organised our Number Day, has had an email from the NSPCC saying:

Thank you for taking part in Number Day 2021. We are so grateful for your support and generosity, especially in such a difficult year for everyone. Your incredibly kind donation of

£790.25 will make a huge difference to the lives of children and young people across the UK.

They have sent us an inflatable Buddy and a certificate.

Thank you to everyone that contributed and helped us raise so much - a magnificent achievement!
