Mailbag 4 December 2020

Mailbag 4 December 2020

Thank you so much to all of you who contributed to the Christmas Class Hampers, we really have been inundated with goodies - thank you! And thanks to Friends for organising. Look out for a separate email about the Friends Christmas Hamper Raffle - coming soon.

On the agenda next week is Hillcrest’s 'Hour of Code', organised by Mrs Loader. The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computing. It has developed into a worldwide celebration of computer science - a grassroots campaign supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide. I know our children are looking forward to being part of it.

Have a great weekend.

Additional needs & SEND survey - We would appreciate parents’ feedback on our approach to supporting children with additional needs, of any type. If your child falls into this group, please click on the link to complete our short on line survey. Thank you.

Owl Class 6RT will be doing a circus skills workshop all day next Wednesday. At the end of the day, there will be an assembly when they will show some of the skills they've learnt.

Mr Taylor will Zoom this for the Owl parents so you have an opportunity to see the children's new expertise. The Zoom meeting will start at 2.15pm. We will send out Zoom details the day before (on Tuesday). If you have any questions please get in touch with Mr Taylor.

Christmas Dinner Deadline - Please make sure you have placed your order by 9am on Monday 7th if you would like your child to have the Christmas meal. Although it’s going to be a ‘Takeaway’ version, eaten in the classroom, it will still be a festive occasion

Reading News - A massive congratulations to Milo in 1JF and Seb in 2KL who are this week's random winners of the 'I Read At Least Four Times This Week And An Adult Has Signed My Reading Book To Prove It' competition. They have won a personalised bookmark each. Keep reading everyone and next time it could be you!

Yr 5 Poetry by Heart - The children have been studying poetry, as part of the national curriculum, for the last two weeks. Their homework this week is to learn a poem to recite to the class next week (for any day). Check out Seesaw or the Yr 5 Homework page on the website for suggested poems and tips from the experts on how to recite their poem with impact. Have fun!

Head lice - We’ve had a report of head lice in Yr 5 this week but it’s worth checking your child’s hair whichever year group they are in. Lice are easy to miss in dry hair so please take the time to wet comb your child’s hair with LOTS of conditioner and a fine tooth comb next time they wash it and then weekly. Click here for information.

Children's University Winter Art & Writing Competition, this is open to ALL children ages 4 to 14 years old, not just CU members. Any Children's University members that enter will get 2 hours learning credits per entry. There are 6 x £20 book token prizes up for grabs, 2 for each age category. Entries must be in by Sunday 13th December and will be judged by the Academic Staff at UWE.

Charity Run - Hugo Easterbrook from 4SL is doing a 10 mile sponsored run, dressed as Santa, starting today, to raise money for the Stroke Association. He would be hugely grateful for any donations.
