Starting school at Hillcrest - Reception 2025
Dear Parents and Carers
We are very excited to welcome your child(ren) into our school! Some of you already have children attending Hillcrest, so you know a lot about our lovely school community. For others it's all a new experience.
We would like to invite you to our Parent/Carer Meeting on Tuesday 24th June 5.30pm-6.30pm in the school hall. This will be an opportunity to find out more about starting school and for us to answer any questions you may have.
In order to meet children’s individual needs, and so we can ensure they will be with some friends from their current setting in their new class, we have sent you a form to complete. If you would like a paper copy, please pop into the school office. We are contacting pre-school settings too, to gather information about your child to support their transition into Reception.
Once classes are finalised, in June, we will be sending you further information about a Stay and Play school visit in July, a home visit in September and the induction period.
Please could you email me a family photo, so we can start preparing our registration wall? kbelcher@hillcrest.bristol.sch.uk
If you have any questions please get in touch. You can email the school office at
school@hillcrest.bristol.sch.uk or contact me directly at kbelcher@hillcrest.bristol.sch.uk.
In the meantime, click HERE to watch a short introductory video about our lovely school, and please do explore our website. You will get a flavour of the life of the school on our Year Group pages and Galleries, and find lots of useful information under the Parents tab.
We are very much looking forward to meeting you and your child(ren) in the coming months.

Head Teacher's Welcome
We are delighted that your child will be joining our school's Reception class in September. We're looking forward to getting to know both you and your child.
Starting school is an exciting time for the whole family but it can also raise lots of questions! We hope this introduction will begin to answer some of those questions, and signpost you to further information on our website.
We want to make the transition into school as smooth as possible and we will do our very best to make you and your child feel secure, valued and ready for the start of the new school year.
Hillcrest is a very special place and we are pleased to welcome you to our school community.

A message to the children from us!
Hi there new Reception children!
We're super-excited about you joining us in September!
We hope you are ready for fun, laughs and loads of learning when you take your place in the Hillcrest PRIDE! You are in for a fantastic adventure over the next seven years, and we are so happy that your grownups have chosen Hillcrest to be your school.
You're big now, and ready for school. It's a happy and exciting time! But no-one (not even grownups) feels big ALL the time, and not knowing what to expect can sometimes feel a bit scary.
Here are some things we want you to know...
All the staff at Hillcrest are very kind, very funny and very caring (even if we do say so ourselves). Our job is to look after you and make our school a safe, secure and fun place to be.
The children at our school are just top-notch! They make Hillcrest what it is and we are so proud of them.
Our Head Teacher, Ms Norman, is the kindest of souls. She has two dogs, Barney and Wilma, who come to school with her most days. Yes, of course you can pet them! You might even get to take them for a walk one day.
The two Reception classrooms and outdoor area are jam-packed
with toys, books, paints, crayons, paper, pens, water games, sand, big and small construction toys and tons more AND there is a brilliant, brand-new climbing frame in the playground. Our outdoor learning area is under cover so we can always play out in the fresh air, even if it's rainy. Your days are going to be full of fun!
And best of all, there are 59 other children who will be coming to school for the first time, just like you, full of excitement (and maybe some butterflies in their tummies too). They're going to need some friends to help them settle in and we think you're just the person for the job!
We'll see you soon!
