ELLIOT - HILLCREST'S HERO!
Moments after making a great save, Elliot (5WL) hit the winning penalty for Hillcrest A in a shootout for third place at the Bristol Central Football Tournament on Wednesday.
It was the icing on the cake for Hillcrest after three teams (two boys' and one girls') did our school proud at the tournament.
Hillcrest A came second in their group after two wins (2-0 and 4-0) and one loss (1-0) with three goals from Gus (6RT) and one each from Elliot (5WL), Luc (5WL) and Finlay (5EN). This meant they qualified for the third-placed play-off which finished 0-0, setting the stage for Elliot's penalty heroics.
Hillcrest B played some excellent passing football but ended with a mixed bag of results in their group. They lost their first game 2-1 with Sam (5WL) scoring for us. They fared better in their next game with a 1-1 draw, with Sam getting our goal again. They dominated possession in their last game but struggled to score in a 3-1 defeat with debutant Josh (4SL) hitting the net. They finally got the win they deserved in the fifth-placed playoff. They hit four goals without reply with Kingston (5WL) bagging a hattrick and Sam scoring his third of the tournament.
The girls team put on a good show in their first competitive appearance of the season but struggled to score any goals in their three group games. They improved lots as the tournament progressed with lots of passing and tough tackling. They should be rightly proud of their efforts, particularly after they ground out a 0-0 draw in their final game.
Representing Hillcrest at the tournament were: Ruben (4SL), Josh (4SL), Elliott (5WL), Sam (5WL), Marcus (5WL), Luc (5WL), Kingston (5WL), Ollie H (5EN), Finlay (5EN), Ollie B-C (6PB), Thomas (6PB), Max (6PB), Ernie (6RT), Gus (6RT), Olivia (5WL), Cecily (5WL), Daisy (6RT), Issy (6RT), Pearl (6RT), Frankie (6RT), Katya (6RT), Eva (6RT), Milene (6PB), Kendra J (6PB).
