Mailbag 16 October 2020 Plain text version for Google Translate
Mr McIntyre and I have had a lovely week going in to classes and talking to children about their learning. It is quite incredible how much goes on in just five days.
- In Yr 5, I looked in awe at some hand sewn snoods and a hand sewn phone holder, complete with button to fasten the flap.
- Split diagraphs are not my forte, so it was great to have a recap in Yr 2.
- My handwriting is always in need of some attention so thanks to Parrot class for their help with practising my ‘Kicking K’.
- Yr 3 were busy practising their letter writing and Yr 4 were knee deep in character descriptions, with both year groups really trying to build on their previous learning.
- Higher up the school, it was a real treat to see the passion and engagement with the class texts, ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls Bathroom’ and ‘Who Let the Gods Out?
What a treat!
Our Enrichment Programme for Term 2 is available to download HERE. It’s still pared down and we look forward to the day we can offer something more like our normal range of clubs.
We’re pleased to say that coaches Matt and Louis from Fast Forward continue to offer two fun sports activities each day. They have tweaked their timetable to cater for the seemingly insatiable demand for Futsal!
And, of course, children can chill with friends at our school-run Early-gators club. They can enjoy a healthy snack and indoor and outdoor play and activities in a relaxed, homely atmosphere. It’s only £6 for the session, which runs from the end of school till 5pm, and we accept Childcare Vouchers. Mum and daughter team, Shelley and Tilly, look forward to welcoming old and new faces next term.
Booking Breakfast Club or Early-gators for the first time? Please complete the Registration and Agreement forms and drop them into school before your child’s first session. You can find them in ‘Frequently used forms’ under the Parent Zone tab on our website here.
Isa’s sponsored run - A big thank you from Isa to everyone who sponsored her. She did amazingly, completing five laps of Perrett’s Park and raising a staggering £1,000 for Disability Rights UK. Well done Isa! What an achievement!
Yr 6 Secondary school applications - The deadline is looming. Applications must be received by midnight on Saturday 31st October. You can find out about how to apply here.
Future Stars Holiday Club will be running at Hillcrest over the half term holiday.
"What's not to love about our holiday clubs? The children arrive to a buzz of activity and friendly faces. Each venue has a consistent teacher/coach so that children feel safe and comfortable. There are themed activities throughout the day with plenty of opportunity to make new friends and catch up with old ones! All of our venues are registered with Ofsted - meaning parents can pay with child care vouchers too!"
Children from other schools are welcome too. For full details and to book click here.
Friends of Hillcrest Fundraising - Thank you very much to all those who have already donated so generously to support the school. All the money we raise goes back to the school to enrich our children's experience and education. Your support will enable us to run enrichment events for the children and a select range of fundraising events for the whole community, where we can do this safely under the COVID-19 constraints.
Donations to Friends of Hillcrest are completely voluntary and can be made here: https://donatemyschool.com/friends-of-hillcrest-2355 or by scanning the Friends QR code on the home page of the school website, here.
The last day of term, next Thursday, is FANCY DRESS / OWN CLOTHES / CRAZY HAIR DAY!
No props or weapons to accompany costumes though, please, and we won’t be collecting the usual £1 (unless you would like to donate it on line, of course!)
Friends of Hillcrest Halloween / Harvest competition! We know that this Halloween may be a bit different from usual, but we also know that the Halloween and Autumnal creativity is strong in this part of Bristol so this year there will be prizes to be won in the following three categories!
- Best Halloween / Harvest front garden
- Best Halloween / Harvest front window
- Best creative pumpkin
Entry is absolutely FREE. If you would like to take part all you need to do is send your child’s name/year group and address to firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesdays 28th October so that we can make sure your entry is visited by the judges!
Remember to tell us whether you are entering your front garden, front window or pumpkin (or all three)!
All entries will be photographed on the afternoon of Saturday 31st October and the winners will be announced during the first week back after half term.
Look out for your Mailbag every Friday.
