Parents’ Evenings - If you haven’t booked an appointment with your child’s teacher you can do so here.
This will be the first time we have tried having all our teachers holding online meetings at the same time. We hope that the School Cloud system will run seamlessly! We have been assured that our school internet connection has enough bandwidth to cope but those teachers who can get back in time will be doing their appointments from home to reduce the demand on the system. If there are any problems with the video connection during your meeting, the teacher will close it and phone you straight away instead. Please bear with us.
Pupil Voice Assembly - Maya talks about Autism in the very first of our new, weekly Pupil Voice Assemblies. Watch the video here.
CoMMinS saliva sampling - The team will be in on Tuesday morning to take samples. Participants in Yrs 2 and 3 will be first up so please can those children remember to finish breakfast and clean teeth by 8.30 so they have a clear 30 minutes before giving their samples at 9?
Early-gators pick up - Can parents collect children on time, please? Early-gators closes at 5pm.
Safety and courtesy - If your child comes to school by themselves on a skateboard or scooter, please talk to them about road safety and awareness of other people on pavements and road users.
Signing in - Just a reminder that all visitors to the school must sign in and out at the office. Children arriving after the normal start time, e.g. after an appointment, also need to be signed in at the office before they go to their classroom (or the playground if they come in during lunch or break time). Children leaving school for any reason during the school day must be signed out at the office.
Check out our now weekly Reading Celebration Assembly - https://youtu.be/uViPtZjz8sE. It features competition winners and an introduction to a reading skill we would like the children to focus on this week. If your child has any reading successes and joys that you want to celebrate send them to email@example.com and we will add it to the next assembly. Keep on reading Hillcrest!
Lost goalie gloves - We don’t usually put appeals for lost items in the Mailbag but Ivor in Yr 3 has lost a pair of Arsenal gloves in school - a special birthday present that he’d only had for one day! They have his name in. Can everyone keep an eye out for them?
Please don’t let children bring treasured possessions into school; it’s so upsetting if they get lost.
A thank you and continued plea from the Year 6 fundraising team - A massive heartfelt thank you to everyone who has already so generously donated to the Year 6 fundraising pot after our plea last week. We’ve included full (slightly updated) details below from last week in case anyone missed it:
For children in Year 6, the final year of primary school is both a special and an emotional one. As their time at primary school nears an end there are usually so many things to look forward to.
For Hillcrest’s Class of 2021, things have not been easy. On top of everything else, they’ve had to cope with lots of uncertainty over which of the usual ‘rites of passage’ will be able to able to happen. Thanks to the amazing Ms Norman, though, camp is now back on which is fantastic news.
Every year the parents of Yr 6 children raise funds for a Leavers Party and some extra goodies to mark the end of their time at Hillcrest and we would still LOVE to provide these things for every child in the year, not just those who can afford it. We would also, if necessary, like to be able to help fund the end of year treat. This is usually paid for with money the children raise themselves doing Mini-Enterprise, which may not be able to happen. Normally we would be doing lots of fundraising events but, as these can’t happen now, we’re asking our wonderful Hillcrest community if you could consider donating what you might have spent at cake/ ice-cream/ book/ plant sales etc. to support us in achieving this goal.
We know this is a big ask, but if you would like to help but have yet to get round to it you can donate via this link: https://paypal.me/pools/c/8yOzImzwe1. We and the children would be so grateful. No amount is too small. To say thank you, we will enter you into a prize draw for a bottle of fizz and a box of chocolates. Simply add your child’s name and class in the comment box to enter. If there are any funds left over we will donate them to Friends of Hillcrest to be used for other children at the school.
Check your child’s Year Group page under the Homework tab on the website.
Look out for your next Mailbag on Monday 10th May.
