News 4th October 2019
We were absolutely delighted this week to host a visit from the Mayor, Marvin Rees, Deputy Mayor Cllr Asher Craig, Reading Engagement Manager for Bristol Libraries, Julia Ball, Children’s Team Librarian, Vicky Hough and Head of Knowle Library, Stephanie Phipps. They were here to present Hillcrest with an award for being the most improved Bristol school in the Summer Reading Challenge 2019. Last year 40 of our children took part and this year it was a record breaking 109! After an assembly, Marvin took the time to read one of his favourite stories (Shark in the Park!) to Parrot class, which was a big hit. Our visitors then joined Yr 6, who were discussing their class text ‘Who Let the Gods Out’. The children’s mature, thoughtful and perceptive contributions made me glow with Hillcrest pride! The visitors were clearly impressed too. You can see some photos from the visit here.

Happy Maps is an excellent, new, on-line resource for parents, funded by Health Education England. Are you worried about your child's behaviour or mental health and not sure what's normal? Wondering whether to see your GP? Perhaps you've been referred to specialist services but there is a long wait... or perhaps you've been told the problem isn't quite serious enough to be referred. Happy Maps is packed with information, resources and advice, signposts to specialist services locally and links to other support. It covers a wide range of well-being, behavioural and mental health issues, from babyhood to young adulthood. Have a look here. We have added a Happy Maps page to our website under the Parent Zone tab so you can find the link any time.

Could you help? Would you like to give Friends a hand (without actually signing your life away?). It would be great to have one or two people each evening to sell Pre-Loved Uniform at the Parents’ Evenings next week. Friends have a lot in stock and we get lots of parents asking about buying it. The Parents’ Evenings are a perfect opportunity to put the two together!
Individual Photos - The school photographers from Tempest will be here on Monday 4 th November, the first day of Term 2. Every child will have an individual photo taken but you can also choose to have siblings in school photographed together and to bring in pre-school brothers and sisters for a group photo. More information nearer the date.
Children’s University stamp codes - Emma has set up codes for all our in school enrichment activities. You can find a list on our website, on the Children’s University page under the Parent Zone tab here. The link to the list of stamp codes on the UWE Children’s University website isn’t working at the moment, but you can email them at to request the codes for non school based activities.
