Welcome to Year 5

Meet the Team...

Miss Swain loves words, vintage fashion, the great outdoors, brain teasers, the arts, and spending time with her lovely friends and family. She is Hillcrest's Literacy Leader.

Mr Farrell is new to Hillcrest and very much looking forward to getting to know his class.

Miss Wyatt is a Teaching Assistant. She adores machinery, she owns a lovely collection of industrial candy floss and popcorn machines, two sewing machines, a badge maker and a doughnut machine. She is a retired aerial circus performer (her specialities were the vertical rope and doubles trapeze!) although now she prefers to be in the audience.

Important information
On Tuesdays, we will not be in class for half of the day while we work together to plan and assess the children's learning. During this time, the children will benefit from a bespoke art curriculum with Mrs Bonner and Ms Sharples, enjoy library and reading sessions with our Reading Champion and HLTA Mrs Price, and also receive high quality sports coaching from a member of the Professional Sports and Fitness Ltd team. The children's other PE session will be swimming on a Wednesday.

Responsibilities
Please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school (including proper sports shoes and warmer bottoms for the cold weather) for the whole term, in order to avoid disrupting their learning. If children choose to come to school in 'sporty' attire, we still expect them to change into their PE kit. Hair over shoulder length should be tied back and all jewellery and watches removed.

It might also be useful for you to know that we encourage children to bring their own stationery to school; we do of course provide all the basics but, in our experience, children prefer to use their own. I'm sure you never tire of hearing this, but please ensure all your child's belongings are named - it really does avoid a lot of hassle.

Communication
If you have any questions at any point, please don't hesitate to speak to us. If it's just a quick question, catch us in the playground at the start or end of the day; otherwise, we can arrange a meeting to take place in the classroom after school. If you are not able to make drop off or pick up, feel free to pass us a note via your child or phone school and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

We look forward to a dynamic year, full of fun, challenge and discovery!
