Winning Engineers

4th June 2019

This was the question posed earlier this year, by Primary Engineering, to thousands of pupils across the UK. Hillcrest pupils spent a week in March considering this question. They interviewed real engineers in person and via web-chat. They identified and considered a range of problems in our world, then designed an invention to solve one specific problem. They drew detailed, labelled drawings of their design and wrote ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitch letters to a judging panel of engineers.

We are thrilled to announce that, out of a total of 17 trophy winners, across the whole of the South West region, 3 of our pupils have won a trophy! Not only that, but 7 more of our children’s designs were in the final shortlisting, receiving a grade of ‘Highly Commended’, with a further 12 children receiving a Distinction. See below for a list of children whose inventions wowed the judges.

Our 3 winners have been invited to attend an exclusive awards ceremony at UWE on Friday 14th June, followed by a private viewing of the accompanying exhibition of the best designs in the South West region. On Saturday 15th June, the exhibition is open to the public and all of the children’s work that was Highly Commended or graded with Distinction will be on display.
