Reception Term 6 2021

PUFFINS & PARROTS

10th June 2021

Dear Reception families

Welcome to Term Six!  We can’t believe we are now in the final term of Reception.  This has been such an action-packed year, it’s been amazing to watch the children grow and learn over the past 10 months.  This term we are becoming Pirates and thinking about ‘How can we travel?”.  You may have already heard about the video from Pirate Pearl!  With this enquiry we are revisiting maps, discovering oceans (and how to look after them), investigating flight, sorting, designing and making vehicles.

We are continuing our transition to Year One events, by meeting teachers, visiting classrooms and having conversations about new friends the children will be able to make.  Some buddying will happen for children who are feeling less confident and we will spend time exploring feelings and emotions linked to the change.

Our exciting trips to Redcatch Community Gardens are continuing, please volunteer to come along with us if you can.  The sessions are Tuesdays, AM only (back in time for lunch!) and the classes are going alternate weeks.  We also have a fantastic trip lined up to visit Lower Stock Farm with Farm Link.  The children will be able to experience a tour of the working farm and look at the lifecycles and habitats of animals – this builds on from our enquiry last term.

Here are a few reminders to help the children over this term:

  • Please do not bring in any toys from home – unfortunately they can get lost and cause great upset to children.
  • Please provide your children with a healthy snack for break, ideally fruit or vegetables, also perhaps cheese or breadsticks – but do avoid crisps, snack bars and sugary treats.
  • During hotter weather, please apply sun screen to your children before school and provide a sunhat.
  • Sandals can be great for the warmer weather, but please ensure socks are worn or they have a closed toe.

Finally, we are after lots of recyclable materials this term.  Packaging from shopping, boxes, tubes, plastic containers etc as we will be building vehicles.  We will ensure all items are quarantined before use.

More information about our learning this term is found on the Term Six overview, downloadable above.  Any questions please do get in touch.
