Enquiry - What Grows in my City?  Friday 24th April
Hi Year 1's, what a creative bunch of individuals you are. It's been lovely seeing all the interesting things you've been doing related to our new Enquiry. Well done if you had a go at identifying and naming the parts of a plant or tree on Monday. GIve yourself a pat on the back if you attempted the challenge and explained what each part does.

For today's lesson we will start with a quick quiz to see what you remember, then we will take a closer look at the life cycle of plants.

As always we've attached a pdf to guide you through the lesson, the task and the challenge. Use the word bank provided to help you choose the correct vocabulary when labelling your drawing. If you get stuck or have a question Mrs Flook is more than happy to help.

We look forward to seeing your learning on Seesaw or via email, staff@hillcrest.bristol.sch.uk

Good morning year ones. Hope you're all enjoying this lovely weather we’re having!

Please can you continue with the White Rose sessions this morning. Today we are learning about finding a half. For those who would like further challenge, I’ve attached an activity to stretch you even further!

SPESCH Thursday 23rd April
Morning Eagles and Kestrels!
This term in our Jigsaw sessions we will be focusing on relationships. Today's lesson is all about families, which couldn't be more apt as we get to spend so much quality time with our loved ones.
We will be asking, 'What makes a family?' and discovering how well you know your own families.

Use the pdf to guide you through the lesson and challenge yourselves to create a recipe for a 'Happy Home'.

Don't forget to share your learning on Seesaw or via email, staff@hillcrest.bristol.sch.uk.
Any queries or questions don't hesitate to email Mrs Flook.

Story time with Mrs Flook  - Thursday 23rd April

Click on the link below to see the video.

https://youtu.be/lt4krZ_hMZ0

This is the story of the 'Last Tree in the City' by Peter Carnavas. After listening to the story I’d like you to think about what your city would look like without any trees? Why are trees important? Could we survive without trees?

Next time you go out for a walk around the park, your garden or your street for your daily exercise I’d like you to count how many trees you can spot. Then think about what that place would look like without trees. Your challenge is to draw a picture of your favourite tree and write sentences to explain why you like it.

Maths - Wednesday 22nd April
Good morning Year ones. Lovely to see so many of your smiling faces on Zoom yesterday. Thanks also for my birthday song - it was fabulous!
For today's maths, I'd like you to carry on with the White Rose Home learning. Concentrate on lesson three attached below. Perhaps you would like to have a go at grouping items at home e.g. share some pens out with your teddies or even some Lego pieces with some Lego figures. How many pieces do you have in total and how many does each teddy/character get? For those of you feeling confident with sharing, I've attached a Maths challenge to stretch you even further! Thanks Year One!

Home learning for Tuesday, April 21st
Below you will find all you need for today's home learning

Maths - Tuesday 21st April

Good morning Year Ones. Hopefully by now you would have received my thank you message for the wonderful video you sent me yesterday! I was very touched. It brought both a tear to my eye and a smile on my face. Thank you - it was so lovely to see so many of you on screen!

In other news ........

I'm so sorry  - my computer was very naughty yesterday and did not seem to upload the Maths work! The internet in our house is also being troublesome!

So to avoid confusion, today I would like you to complete lesson two on the White Rose link below. I've attached a guide for how to use the web site to help.

For those of you who would like a catch up, scroll down to yesterday's work ( and my welcome to term five note) and you'll see work on doubling numbers to 20! Some of you may like to work extra hard in Maths today and cover both lesson one and two! If not, just watch the doubling numbers song attached below and see if you can learn the doubles. You may even want to represent doubling numbers in your own creative ways at home.

Thank you and apologies again Mrs Howells

Zoom catch-ups this week
1MH Eagles - Tuesday, April 21st @ 1.30pm, login details posted on Seesaw
1JF Kestrels - Friday, April 24th @ 2pm, login details posted on Seesaw

RE Tuesday 21st April
Last term we focused on Christianity and how Jesus was treated by his followers. We asked and answered lots of interesting questions and formed our own opinions from what we had learnt. This term we will be looking at another world religion, Judaism. We will be asking 'Is Shabbat important to Jewish children?'.

Today's lesson is about the importance of family. Your challenge will be to create your own recipe for a 'Happy Home.' You can use the whole template, bits of it, or why not be creative and try to come up with your own version.

Use the attached pdf to guide you through the lesson. As always you can email Mrs Flook if you get stuck.
Home learning for Monday, April 20th
Below you will find all you need for today's home learning

It's Zoooooooom time!

We are very excited to have the opportunity to catch up with you all during a weekly Zoom session. These meetings will be with your class teachers and take place every Tuesday. Please look on Seesaw for login and password details.

Hi Kestrels, I was very excited at the prospect of seeing some of you tomorrow during our first Zoom class catch-up meeting, but sadly I've had to postpone it this week as I've been rather silly and double booked myself. I know I have some very interesting skills, but being in two places at once is not one of them. So I suggest that we reschedule our catch-up for Friday afternoon at 2.00pm instead. How does that sound? I look forward to seeing you soon!

Please take a look at the Zoom Guidance pdf below.

As the above video explains we will be focussing on spelling, phonics and handwriting activities over the next two weeks in Year 1.

Your task for today is to assess what you know and what you do not know when it comes to these three areas. This will let you know what you need to focus on during your daily English activities over the next two weeks.

If you would like to share the results of your assessments, and get some feedback tailored just to you, send them to hillcrestphonics@yahoo.com

Do not worry if there seems like a lot of words and sounds you do not know yet. Just narrow the list down to 10 words and 10 sounds and start from there.

The video also mentions the website pobble365.com. Here you will find a different interesting image every day with related activities to get your creative writing juices flowing. Give it a visit and post anything you do on Seesaw.

Have a great day!
Enquiry
Welcome back you lovely lot! We hope you all enjoyed the Easter break and are ready to continue on our incredible learning journey?

Mr McIntyre, Mrs Howells and myself are all very excited because the Summer term is perfect for diving head first into our new enquiry, 'What grows in my city?'. You will be your usual inquistive selves identfying, naming, investigating, observing, asking and answering questions in your various roles as scientists, geographers, engineers, artists and authors. We will be covering all things related to plants, with a range of fun lessons and activities for you to participate in. We have attached a Knowledge Organiser to help you understand some of the terminology and things we will be looking at this term.

In today's lesson we will be finding out what you already know about plants and then challenge you to identify and label the different parts on a picture. We have attached a pdf to guide you through the lesson but please feel free to email Mrs Flook if you have any questions or queries.

We look forward to seeing your learning on Seesaw or by emailing it to your teacher staff@hillcrest.bristol.sch.uk

Maths - Monday 20th April

Good Morning Year One!

I hope you had a fantastic sunny Easter holiday. I had a lovely time but ate far too much chocolate, so I'll have to get back to the Joe Wicks exercise classes this morning! I also celebrated a special birthday and was spoilt by my family and friends with lots of surprises and a yummy cake!

It’s time to get our brains working now and begin term five home learning.

Please find below the timetable for this week’s Maths. We will be following The White Rose Home Learning scheme of work and I'll add extra information and activities as we go along.

Underneath the timetable, you will find the link to the home learning. There is a teaching video to watch first and it starts with a flashback to get your maths brains warmed up. If you don’t have a printer, just have the worksheet in front of you and work out the answers on a piece of paper. I have also included a Jack Hartman video to help with your understanding of doubles. You know how much we love Jack's songs

Any questions, please drop me an email.

Good luck and keep working hard!

Mrs Howells
