Home learning for Thursday, May 7th

Storytime with Mrs Flook
Click on the link below to watch Mrs Flook reading 'Frog Belly Rat Bone' by Timothy Basil Ering

As you all know I love reading and sharing my favourite stories with you. I particularly enjoy bringing the characters to life by using different voices. Why not record yourself reading your favourite story then post it to Seesaw for us all to enjoy?

Or if you don't fancy that, why not write a story about finding a box of treasure, what would it be? My treasure would be a box crammed full with an assortment of lovely fabrics for making puppets. Or maybe a box of books I haven't read yet. It's up to you what your treasure is, be as imaginative as you can.

I hope you enjoy the story as much as I do.
ART Activity
Take a look at this week's exciting art activity from Ms Bonner and Ms Sharples. Share your drawings on Seesaw or send it to Mrs Fleming to add to the Art Exhibition.

Maths - Thursday 7th May
Be a Maths Detective!
Today (and throughout the weekend if you wish) i would like you to become detectives. Search your house and your environment for any evidence of real life Maths.
Maths is all around us! We use it everyday and it can be seen wherever we go. You might spot something cubed shaped, you might spot a large number on a cereal box, odd numbers on houses or you might even find a calculation somewhere! Take photos, make a pic collage, draw pictures or write about your findings. I'm really looking forward to seeing all your hard work detectives!
Enjoy a super long weekend.
Best Wishes Mrs Howells.

Enquiry Wednesday 6th May
What a glorious day for an enquiry Year 1! How are your beans and peas doing? I've shared pictures of mine on the pdf below and we'd love to see how yours are doing, so don't forget to share photos or pictures on Seesaw.

So, we know all about the parts of plants, life cycles, dispersal methods and we can also identify and name some common or wild plants, flowers and trees. This week we've been focuing on how plants  grow from seeds. We're predicting, observing and recording our findings in order to answer our own queries and questions. During my research I've made yet another discovery, which is that plants can also grow from bulbs! But what is a bulb you may well be asking, well today we're going to find out. Let the pdf guide you through the lesson and hopefully all your questions will be answered.

Today's challenge is very exciting and involves those cress seeds you picked up from school.

Enjoy!
Maths - Wednesday 6th May
Today I would like you to complete lesson three on the White Rose Learning. This is a great re-cap of the part part whole model we use frequently in ourlessons. You then have a related activity to complete on the website. Feel free to also draw some part part whole models on your number garden you started at the beginning of the week. Or even create a part part whole number hunt for your brothers, sisters or parents.
If you would like further challenge click on the link below which explores using the model in more detail. Keep working hard Year Ones!

RE Tuesday 5th May
Abbie Owl is going to help us take a closer look at the Jewish celebration of Shabbat, with the help of a Jewish family. Keep those Eagle eyes and Kestrel ears open Year 1 to help you complete the task at the end. Use your creative skills and challenge yourself to draw pictures of the sort of activities you and a Jewish child might get up to on the weekend.

I look forward to you sharing your learning on Seesaw.

Maths - Monday 4th May
Good Morning Year Ones. I hope you had a lovely weekend. This week we will be focusing on number relationships and making links within Maths. Today I would like you to watch the Lesson One video on White Rose Home Learning. Despite the fact I know you are brilliant at recalling your number bonds, I recommend you complete this activity as it will really help you develop your understanding of number fact families.

For those of you who would like further challenge, have a go at this ....

Mrs Howells' Maths Garden.
Your task is to design a garden full of number fact family flowers for Mrs Howells! See the image below for inspiration. Make your poster as big as you like and try to give each flower as many petals as you can with related facts. You can continue this throughout the week if you like and post your final creations on Seesaw on Friday. I'm really looking forward to seeing these, as flowers and number are two of my many favourite things!
Best Wishes Mrs Howells
