Summer Term 6 - Year 2 Newsletter
Wow, we really can’t believe it’s Term 6 already! We hope that it will be a term full of fun, laughter and wonderful learning.
Authors & Readers: The children will have the opportunity to plan and write their own stories with a focus on character description. We also consider the structure of a story, ensuring we have a clear beginning, middle and end. Also, we will be looking at fact files which links in with our enquiry learning this term about animals. Our class book is ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ and the children will read this together, questioning and discussing the text.
Weekly spellings will also be set and tested each Friday - please continue to practise these at home with your child.
We are also very excited for our upcoming poetry day on the 1st July. We will be sending the children home with a poem to learn off by heart. They will get the opportunity to perform their poem to their year group.
Maths: This term, we will be introducing fractions. The children will find halves, quarters and thirds of shapes and amounts of objects. There will be opportunities daily to continue to work on securing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.
Enquiry: What is home? This term is all about animals and their habitats. We will be exploring life cycles and food chains and learn about what animals need to survive in their environment.
PE will continue to be on a Monday afternoon. Please ensure the children are prepared for indoor and outdoor PE on these days, making sure names are on all pieces of clothing. We hope to have a sports day July 8th. Details to follow.
RE and Art will be taught on alternating Wednesdays and Thursdays by Mrs Price and Miss Bonner.
We are more than happy to talk to you about any concerns or issues you may have. Please feel free to contact us through email.
