Yr 3 2014/15 Term 5

Our Topic Web for Term 5, available to download below.

School of Rock and Heavy Metal

This term Year 3 will be exploring the wonders of the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages. Within this topic we will be looking at how people survived and comparing the differences between these ages. You better have your craft skills ready, as we will be creating fabulous model houses and designing ways to carry ‘Stonehenge’ rocks! Year 3 never miss an opportunity to use their amazing art skills. Therefore, we will be taken back in time to create cave paintings to retell a Stone Age story. If you want to do some early research, here is a list of some Stone Age heritage sites: Skara Brae, Llyn Cerrig and Stonehenge.

If you would also like to go for a local visit with the family, here are a few areas of historical interest:

  • Blaise Castle Hillfort
  • Southmead Barrow - Badock’s Wood
  • Priddy Nine Barrows Cemetery - Somerset
  • Stanton Drew, Somerset
  • West Kennet Long Barrow - Wiltshire
  • Avebury, Wiltshire
  • Stonehenge, Wiltshire,  World Heritage Site

This term’s book that we are reading during story time and linking with our Literacy lessons is ‘Stig of the Dump’ by Clive King. Feel free to read this with your child.

Swimming achievement!

We've been designing a new place for Stig of the Dump to live, thinking of all the things he would need.

We handled real stone tools at Bristol Museum

Our rather eventful trip to the stone circle at Stanton Drew.  Our coach got completely stuck in a narrow lane and we had to wait hours for another coach to rescue us!  We played in a field whilst we waited... the best trip ever!
