Yr 6 Sex & Relationships Education info 19 May 2021

19th May 2021
Dear Parent/Carer
Next week, as part of our Year 6 PSHE/SEAL* programme for this term the Yr 6 children will be learning about Sex and Relationships. The Year 6 units involve the children learning about women giving birth and the changes that boys and girls go through as they get older.
As part of this we will be watching some of the Channel 4 series Living and Growing. This is a series about relationships and growing up. .A lot of discussion will take place before and after we watch the programme. It would be helpful if you also discuss this with your child at home.
Read the accompanying guide to our Jigsaw SRE curriculum to see what it covers.
We set out ground rules for the children before beginning this unit that minimise any embarrassment they might feel and discourage inappropriate personal disclosures. The rules also include using the correct terms for body parts and not having to answer personal questions.
We feel, at Hillcrest, that this is a very important part of your child’s education. Sex and Relationships is linked to the Science curriculum and is a unit that is delivered every year at an appropriate level for your child, one year’s work building on the next.
We understand, however, that some parents may wish to withdraw their children due to their religious or cultural beliefs and recognise their legal right to do so. If you wish your child to be withdrawn, please download and complete a Withdrawal form and email it to us, or ask for a copy in the office, and hand the completed form back by Monday 24th May. If we do not hear from you we will assume you are happy for your child to take part.
If you would like any further information, please get in touch.
Kind regards
Mr Taylor & Mr Boyle
