What are we learning this term?

Our Enquiry this term is What links Britain to the Caribbean? We will begin by studying the geographical formation of Jamaica and the Lake District to compare these two places, before exploring the culture and pull-factors of Jamaica. We will use this information to inspire our writing, where we will create radio adverts. We will then move on to the second part of our Enquiry, where we will be learning about the Windrush scandal. We will be looking at human migration and the motivation for people to leave behind their homes. We will explore the disparity in what was promised to migrants and the realities they faced at the time of arrival and after more than 60 years of living in the UK. The children will be writing in role as Windrush pioneers and families will be invited in so that children can share their learning at the end of the term.

This term we will be investigating place value of numbers up 10 million, including comparing, ordering and rounding integers, and mastering our understanding negative numbers. We will then cement our knowledge of the four operations, revising and developing formal written methods for addition, subtraction, long multiplication and division.

Children will continue to work their way through My Great Hillcrest Spelling Saga. Each week the children will have an extra section of their level to learn. There will be weekly check-ins in class and the children will complete their level checks and boss levels every 6 weeks. Keep an eye on the mailbag for reminders of when this will be.
