What are we learning this term?
Our two focuses for our enquiries this term are; ‘What materials are eggs-ellent?’ and ‘Are all Schools the same?’.
Our Science focus will be all about materials and their suitability for different uses and our Geography focus is about comparing the features of two contrasting locations (Bristol and Kenya).
As Authors, we will be building upon what the children have been learning in Year 1. This will include working on sentence structure, correct use of full stops and capital letters. We will use ‘talk for writing’ to enable the children to discuss their design for a structure to protect an egg, linked to their enquiry. We will practice handwriting, phonics and reading daily.
Over the next few weeks, we will be assessing the children’s reading and their understanding of a text and will provide them with reading books appropriate to their level. Please ensure children bring in their book bags daily. When you read with your children out of school, please remember to question them about their understanding of the text and ask them to retell the story. We ask that you date the reading record book and add a comment or smiley face to show that you have read with your children. They can earn rewards for reading at least four times a week at home.
As Mathematicians we will be securing our knowledge of place value and exploring addition and subtraction. For example, we will be recognising and using the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction and use this to check calculations and solve missing number problems.
We will be Artists with Ms Sharples on Wednesday.
