My name is Miriam and I am a published author and DBS-certified English teacher with over 10 years of experience based in Fishponds. I am running an online summer school for children aged 10-12 between July and September.
I'll be running two courses:
✍️ Creative Writing Workshop:
This 6-week online workshop is designed to help young writers bring their ideas to life. Students will learn how to create vivid characters, craft exciting plots, and use language in imaginative and powerful ways. No previous experience is needed – just curiosity and creativity. The course runs for one hour per week over six weeks, from 28th July to 31st August, on Tuesdays 3-4pm (note that the last session is on a Monday, before the return to school), delivered online via Zoom. With a maximum of just 8 students per group (aged 10-12), learners receive plenty of individual attention in a supportive environment. The course fee is £72.
📖 Summer Reading Club:
This is an 8-week course where we will read and discuss Philip Pullman's 'The Firework-Maker's Daughter'. Each week, students will read one chapter of the book and then we will come together to talk about the characters, themes, and storytelling. Students will share ideas, discuss key moments, and explore what makes a book truly memorable, developing their literacy skills and their ability to analyse, understand, and enjoy stories. With a maximum of just 8 students (ages 10–12), each session will offer plenty of opportunity for discussion and participation. The club runs for one hour per week over eight weeks, from 13th July to 1st September, on Tuesdays 4.30-5.30pm, delivered online via Zoom. The course fee is £60.
