Yr 2 2025/26

Michele Curtis class showcasing their history knowledge on the Great Fire of London.

This term's visit to Redcatch Community Garden

This is 'Brunel' reading some of the recounts children in year 2 wrote about the day he tried his Suspended Traveller across the Avon Gorge for the first time. (A way to cross the gorge before the bridge was built). We are grateful to Matthew Whittle from the Wardrobe Theatre for being 'Brunel'.

During World Science Week, Year 2 investigated how to best launch a piece of paper from one side of the room to the other. We designed paper airplanes and explored the best ways to launch them. The children followed instructions to make their paper aeroplanes and then they created launchers with a pencil, paper clip and rubber band. There was a lot of excitement when we realised that the classroom wasn't big enough because they were flying so far and we needed to move into the hall!

We saw the power of soap today! The children had fun breaking the surface tension of water with soap, making floating oregano shoot out to the edge of the bowl of water and then small boats shoot across the tray.

Travelling Light Theatre Company came in to perform their show 'The Forest Door' . The big hall was transformed into a magical forest. The children were enthralled throughout and laughed and sang with the cast. It was a lovely story about friendship. Here are some photos from the performance and Michele Curtis class having a workshop before the show.

Year 2 have made posters to help them with their 2, 5 and 10 x tables.

Year 2 have been exploring grouping and sharing objects equally in our multiplication and division topic.

Michele Curtis class studying maps of London in 1666 along with their knowledge notes to see how the fire spread over 4 days.

Trying out our vehicles. To be successful the wheels and axles needed to be measured accurately and lined up to allow the vehicle to travel in a straight line.

Year 2 are so proud of the vehicles we made to transport Wallace and Gromit around the UK in a fun, accessible and sustainable way.

Bedtime Stories Evening

We have been designing fun and accessible vehicles, with wheels and axles, and making our designs into real, moving models! We had to use a range of tools to make our wheels and axles, before decorating our vehicles.

Our readers this unit were our parents and we have just had our sharing event. It was lovely to see all the children with a parent or grandparent to read to.

Year 2 have been designing and testing algorithms on robots!

Year 2 have been learning about 3D shapes. We even had lots of fun making them!

Year 2 have come to the end of our Brunel Enquiry and made bridges out of paper again. This time, with our new knowledge of bridges, we were able to make much more stable structures that ensured the car was able to cross the water safely!

Michele Curtis class working on publishing their Brunel recounts.

The children worked in pairs, with one taking the role of Brunel and the other being an interviewer asking him how he felt on his first trip across the Avon Gorge in the Suspended Traveller.

2RG visited the Community Garden. We had so much fun using all our five senses! We even got to eat some of the plants!

Michelle Curtis class had another lovely visit to Redcatch Community Garden. The children looked at different leaves and were interested in how the garden had changed since the last time we were there.

We have started to learn about Brunel and had fun making models of the SS Gt Britain and blowing them across the table.

Cooking! Michele Curtis class using chopping and other cooking skills to prepare ingredients for their healthy vegetable tarts.

2KLs visit to the Community Garden this term. We were lucky to have a workshop with the Collective Climate Repair group who were visiting from Cornwall. The children were really engaged.

The children in Michele Curtis class identified foods that belong in the 5 food groups on the Eatwell plate.
