Our Community Links

Hillcrest sits at the heart of the community with close links with many local organisations - Sydenham Road Under Fives (who use our playground), Redcatch Community Garden, Totterdown Baptist Church, Holy Nativity Church, TRESA (Totterdown Residents Environmental and Social Association), Totterdown Children's Community Workshop, Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust and the Totterdown Front Rooms Art Trail, to name but a few.  There are also local businesses (some owned by current or ex-Hillcrest families) who are very much engaged with the school.

The school building is a valued community resource and the hall is used outside school hours for a range of classes and events.

The Hillcrest community supports many charities and the children are always keen to be involved in fund raising events throughout the year.  Dressing up and cake sales are always popular!

The school is a collection point for the Matthew Tree Food Bank at certain times of year.

Hillcrest is a key venue in the annual Totterdown Front Rooms Art Trail, when the school building is open to the public, hosting a variety of artists and children's workshops.

What started as two people chatting about a disused bowling green has blossomed into a vibrant community space with 20 staff and over 40 volunteers!

Our first formal Impact Report showcases how we're creating positive change across six key areas:

• Improved Family Economic Circumstances
• Social Inclusion
• A More Cohesive Community
• Improved Mental and Physical Health
• A Sustainable and Resilient Organisation
• Advocating for Positive Change

From our weekly Community Lunch serving 2,054 meals to our Tai Chi classes where 92% of participants report improved physical health, we're proud to be making a real difference in Knowle.

From the single seed of an idea to the flourishing community space we are today, Redcatch Community Garden wouldn't exist without our incredible staff, volunteers, visitors, partners and supporters. Together we've created something truly special for our community and for that we are so grateful! 💚
