  • Let's Count

    Fri 21 May 2021

    Dear Hillcrest Primary School

Thank you so much for taking part in Let's Count! and entering the competition.

The standard of entries was extremely high, which made the judging process very difficult!

On this occasion your school's entry was not selected as a winner, however I'm pleased to say that the entry from Hillcrest Primary School was a Runner Up in the South West.

This is an excellent achievement to reach the final five for the South West, so many congratulations to you and the children on producing a very high quality entry. Well done!

    Many congratulations!

    Kind regards

  • Fish Finger Thursday

    Mon 17 May 2021

All aboard for Fish Finger Thursday!

Our funding for Universal Free School Meals is based on a snapshot on School Census day - this Thursday. It would be a great help to have as many children as possible taking a school meal that day, even if they don’t normally.

We are switching Thursday and Friday’s menus so the ever-popular fish fingers and chips (or Quorn Dippers and chips for the veggies) will be served on Thursday this week.

  • Eid Mubarak

    Wed 12 May 2021

Our best wishes to the Hillcrest families celebrating Eid-al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr is the Islamic festival that celebrates the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan. Sharing food with family, friends and other members of the community is an important part of the festival. It is a time of goodwill, when presents are given, new clothes are worn and the graves of relatives are visited. Because one of the Five Pillars of Islam is giving to charity - Zakat - many Muslims will also celebrate by making donations and helping out others.

    Click here to book.

"What's not to love about our holiday clubs? The children arrive to a buzz of activity and friendly faces. Each venue has a constant teacher/coach so that children feel safe and comfortable. There are themed activities throughout the day with plenty of opportunity to make new friends and catch up with old ones! Parents can pay with child care vouchers too!"
  • Reading Celebration

    Fri 07 May 2021
Check out this week's Reading Celebration Assembly. It features competition winners and an introduction to a reading skill we would like the children to focus on this week.

If your child has any reading successes and joys that you want to celebrate send them to cmcintyre@hillcrest.bristol.sch.uk and we will add it to the next assembly.

    Keep on reading Hillcrest!

  • Books for our libraries

    Fri 07 May 2021
Jeni Easterbrook (Mum to Louis and Hugo) has donated all these beautiful new books, predominantly on the subject of autism but also about emotions and empathy, after fundraising over £400 by organising an Easter raffle!

One of the most wonderful things about a book is its ability to reveal to us a little piece of ourselves. When we can relate to a story or a character, we are left with a better understanding of who we are.

This might be most true for children on the autism spectrum. Things like relating to others, understanding emotions, and making and keeping friends are common challenges faced by children with autism. Reading about autistic characters can act as an outlet and a learning tool to discovering one’s own place in the world.

While some of these books are written specifically for children on the autism spectrum, others are aimed towards siblings and friends. Regardless of the specific audience, children’s books about the autism spectrum provide a level of comfort and understanding that can only be achieved through a good story.

Jeni met with Karin Bowden, our school librarian, to hand over the books - a wonderful resource for both our KS1 and KS2 libraries.

A massive thank you to Jeni for organising and thank you to all the parents who donated.
