  • Autism course for parents and carers

    Wed 25 May 2022

Do you live in Bristol, North Somerset or South Gloucestershire and is your child on the waitlist for a diagnosis for Autism?

Bristol, North Somerset and South Glos (BNSSG) Parent Carer Forums have joined together to provide and host a range of online information sessions and face-to-face workshops delivered by a SEND professional and an experienced SEND parent carer.

These sessions will provide tips on recognising needs together with practical ways to help your child.  Even if your child does not receive a diagnosis of autism following assessment, the strategies you learn in this course are likely to still prove helpful.

  • Young Carers

    Tue 17 May 2022

Young carers are children and young people who look after someone in their family who has a disability, a long term illness or is affected by mental health or substance misuse.

Advice, support, respite and free family days out can be accessed from the carers support centre:

Help for young carers | Carers Support Centre

The Young Carers Service provides help and support to children aged 8-18, their families and professionals working with young carers in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Tina, our Family Support, makes referrals for those that she's aware of, but statistically we're sure there must be more children out there that need support.

Come and see Tina for a chat.

  • Award Winners

    Fri 13 May 2022

Well done to this week's stars!

  • Rainbow Flag Award!

    Fri 13 May 2022

The Proud Trust has awarded Hillcrest The Rainbow Flag Award!

Very well done to everyone for all of your efforts and contributions, this is an award for all of us!

We passed with flying rainbow colours! Here are some quotes from The Proud Trust's evidence feedback... they were very, very, very impressed with us...

"And on a personal note - some of the best primary work we have ever seen. Great job."

"What a gorgeous collection of testimonials from staff, students and parents... it is clear that LGBT+ is celebrated and the school is a safe and happy place for everyone... and that children love the culture of the school."

"A wonderful variety of inclusive books... which are clearly enjoyed by the young people who read them."

"How lovely for your pupils to be supported in being themselves, and that they are provided with a range of activities and dress-ups that allow them to independently explore their identities, and feel safe and supported in doing so."

"This is a incredibly impressive set of evidence and made me smile throughout.  The children who attend your school are very lucky to be able to be educated in such an inclusive environment where difference is celebrated... a lot of work has gone in here! A very, very easy pass - well done!"

"The work you are doing is preventing LGBT phobia from happening and creates a safe space for young LGBT+ people."

"I love that young people got to learn about the history of Pride locally, talk to parents in same-gender relationships and more, that [the podcast] got such a wonderful reaction from people who listened.  They must be feeling proud."

  • Future Stars Holiday Club

    Wed 11 May 2022
  • Come and join our reading team!

    Wed 11 May 2022

For the first time since the pandemic, we are very excited to re-open our doors to parents and carers to come in to support children with their reading.

We want to build up a team of volunteer readers who can pop into school regularly and help children flourish with their reading.

If you are interested, here is what you need to do:

    • Email school@hillcrest.bristol.sch.uk with the subject line ‘Reading Volunteer’ and let us know what days and times you can come in and if you would rather just read with your child(ren)’s year group(s) or if you are happy to read with any age group.

    • Then, as soon as you can, drop into the office with two valid IDs and proof of address so we can get your DBS sorted. If you already have a DBS, please drop in to show us so we can put it on our system.

And here is what will happen next:

    • There will be a ‘Reading Volunteers’ induction from 9-10am on Tuesday, May 24th. This will be a guide on how to support a child with their reading.

    • Afterwards you will be given a child, or a group of children, to hear read regularly throughout Term 6.

If you have the time, we would love to have you on board – you will make a real difference in a child’s life.

  • Eid Celebration

    Fri 06 May 2022

We were thrilled that so many of you could join us to celebrate Eid on Wednesday. It was fantastic to see so many children and adults in school. A huge thank you to all our families who took the time to make and bake the food. It was delicious!
