Congratulations to this week's Award Winners!

  • Flagging it Up!

    Fri 11 Feb 2022

We’re proud to announce that we’ve achieved two more steps on our path to the Rainbow Flag Award - ‘Effective Policies’ and ‘Supportive Governors & Parents’.

Here’s a quote from the Evidence Review:

This is a clear pass - well done! I’m really impressed with the work your school is doing. Governors and parents are both kept informed of the inclusive work you are doing in several ways, with governors actively encouraging the school to ensure the work goes further than just the award. The website is a great way to keep parents up to date and give them access to support and information as well.

These two sections join the Skilled Teacher Award we achieved in the autumn. We're now working towards the three remaining sections and are very much hoping to achieve the full Rainbow Flag Award before the end of this school year.

Have a look at our Rainbow Flag page for information about the award and what it looks like in action at Hillcrest, LGBT+ support links, children’s book reviews and learning resources for grownups. You’ll also find a link where you can send us your comments and questions. We would love your feedback.

  • Good for Hillcrest!

    Mon 07 Feb 2022

We are delighted to confirm that, according to our brand new Ofsted report, Hillcrest continues to be a 'Good' school.

The report is a fantastic reflection on how our staff and governors support the children in our school as well as each other. We couldn't be more proud of them and the children. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their hard work and support.

There were 216 responses to the Ofsted Parent Survey - the highest response the HMI inspector had seen in her three years in the role. 150 parents even took the time to comment. We were bowled over by your support, not only for those two days, but every day - thank you.

We will build on the many strengths mentioned in the report and take heed of those areas that need to be developed as we continue the journey of improving Hillcrest Primary and ensuring it remains a school the whole community can be proud of.

    Fri 04 Feb 2022

When things get tough and it seems nothing is going your way, it can sometimes feel like the easy thing, or natural thing, to do is to give up. But us Hillcrestonians always try to be resilient and, my goodness, did our Harriers show oodles of resilience as they took on Broomhill in a football match.

The scoreline was not on their side but they refused to give in. They kept on running, kept on tackling, kept on shooting, kept on passing and eventually they hit the back of the net when Iris broke free to slot home a goal that England Lioness, Ellen White, would have been proud of.

It was a joy to watch them play with a smile on their face - they did our school proud.

    Well done to Martha 6PB, Betty 5DB, Iris 5DB, Ellie 6NW, Tilly 5CS, Isla 5DB, Rose 5DB, Beth 6NW and Della 5DB.

And thank you to Mr Barham for organising.

  • NSPCC Number Day

    Fri 04 Feb 2022

We're taking part in the NSPCC's annual Number Day fundraiser today, dressing up with numbers and enjoying some fun maths and number activities.

Mouhamadou from Yr 6 went the extra mile - he decided to bake some cakes and bring them in to sell to his classmates to raise even more money for the NSPCC.

    Well done Mo!

It's not too late to donate via our JustGiving page:

    Stop press!

Together, we raised a magnificent £667 to support the NSPCC's valuable work.

  • Swimming to save our pool

    Fri 04 Feb 2022

For 85 years Jubilee Swimming Pool has been an importand leisure facility for our community. The Friends of Jubilee Pool (volunteers) want to save the pool for future generations by bringing it into community ownership.

That's why, last weekend, this lovely lot put on their swimming costumes and joined in a 24 hour swim relay event to raise money for the campaign.

Hundreds of swimmers, volunteers and cheerleaders joined forces with FoJP to help raise over £27,000 towards the group’s bid to Save Jubilee Pool from closure.

Donations continue to flood in. If you'd like to contribute it's not too late - visit Friends of Jubilee Pool’s fundraising page.

With the goal of the 24 hour fundraising relay to try and swim from Jubilee Pool in Bristol to Buckingham Palace in London, over 200 participants collectively swam a total of 14,216 lengths of Jubilee’s 22m pool, smashing the original target of 10,000 lengths. With a total of 312,752m swum equating to 193 miles, swimmers not only collectively swam to Buckingham Palace but almost swam all the way BACK to Jubilee Pool too!
