Books for our libraries
Fri 07 May 2021Jeni Easterbrook (Mum to Louis and Hugo) has donated all these beautiful new books, predominantly on the subject of autism but also about emotions and empathy, after fundraising over £400 by organising an Easter raffle!One of the most wonderful things about a book is its ability to reveal to us a little piece of ourselves. When we can relate to a story or a character, we are left with a better understanding of who we are.This might be most true for children on the autism spectrum. Things like relating to others, understanding emotions, and making and keeping friends are common challenges faced by children with autism. Reading about autistic characters can act as an outlet and a learning tool to discovering one’s own place in the world.
While some of these books are written specifically for children on the autism spectrum, others are aimed towards siblings and friends. Regardless of the specific audience, children’s books about the autism spectrum provide a level of comfort and understanding that can only be achieved through a good story.
Jeni met with Karin Bowden, our school librarian, to hand over the books - a wonderful resource for both our KS1 and KS2 libraries.

NSPCC Number Day
Fri 07 May 2021Happy Number Day from the NSPCC!We're delighted that Hillcrest has signed up to support us by taking part in Number Day, celebrating maths at your school and raising money for our important work with children.Today, Friday 7th May, children across the UK are taking part in fun maths activities and are encouraged to make a £2 donation to the NSPCC and wear an item of clothing with a number on it.We know that this year’s Number Day might be a little bit different and we’re here to support you along the way. We have everything you need to make your Number Day event safe and fun, with new activities and games that can be enjoyed in class bubbles.Help us to make 2021 the biggest year yet!

WBD Fancy Dress
Wed 31 Mar 2021We postponed our usual World Book Day fancy dress day until we were all back at school to join in the fun.Here we are, dressed up as our favourite book characters on the last day of term...Mae's Impya costume got retweeted by both the author and the illustrator of her chosen book character! -
Easter Egg Hunt
Mon 29 Mar 2021Friends have hidden 14 eggs, beautifully decorated by Hillcrest students, in windows around the local area.
The eggs can be spotted throughout the Easter holidays (from Friday 2nd until 18th April). Download the map and clues on our Latest News Documents page.
You can use either the map OR the tough clues - depending on how challenging you'd like the egg hunt to be!
When you find an egg, note down the accompanying letter in the column on the Clues sheet. Collect all the letters to reveal a secret message.

ASD Awareness Raffle
Fri 26 Mar 2021Autism Awareness Easter RaffleWorld Autism Awareness Week is from 29 March to 4 April 2021 - the same time many of us will also be celebrating Easter.To raise awareness about Autism and support Hillcrest in providing resources and books on communication, mental health and wellbeing, Hillcrest parent Jeni Easterbrook is raffling an amazing Easter box from Mendip Chocolate Chef, worth over £40.
